Annuals Greenhouse Manager
About Us: Bates Nursery is a third generation small business specializing in high-quality plants and soils; offering the widest selection in the Southeast. We’re seeking a dedicated and experienced Annuals Greenhouse Manager to build and lead our dynamic team and oversee our important greenhouse operations. The annuals department is a major core department to the nursery, and our customers have relied on the consistent quality and variety of the plants offered. It’s also the place where many new gardeners get their start, and it’s important to set them up for success additionally.
Position Overview: Full-time, year round. The Annuals Greenhouse Manager will play a pivotal role in maintaining the health and quality of our plants, managing a large department, and ensuring smooth operations. This position requires strong leadership, organizational skills, and a firm knowledge of caring for thousands of plants. You’ll oversee the orderly unloading and organizing of multiple truckloads of annuals & tropicals during our busy season, supervise a skilled and dynamic team, and collaborate with other departments to ensure operational excellence and consistent guest satisfaction. Inventory tagging and assitance with reordering out of stock plants. The nursery is weekend-focused and included in the full-time requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
* Team Leadership:
* Supervise, mentor, and motivate a team of greenhouse staff, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
* Schedule and delegate tasks effectively to ensure all operations run efficiently.
* Plant Care & Maintenance:
* Oversee the health and upkeep of all plants, including watering, pruning, and pest management.
* Implement best practices to maintain the highest quality standards for our plants.
* Logistics & Inventory Management:
* Coordinate the unloading and organization of multiple weekly truckloads of plants.
* Maintain accurate inventory records and ensure proper storage and display.
*Notify purchaser of out of stock plants.
* Collaboration:
* Work closely with other departments, including landscape specialists, houseplants, perennials, and garden center.
* Assist with event planning and seasonal promotions as needed.
Qualifications:
* Proven experience in greenhouse management or a related field. Certified horticulture education preferred.
* Strong leadership and team management skills.
* Ability to work in an at-times seasonally fast-paced, physically demanding environment.
* Knowledge of annual flowering/edible plants and their care.
* Excellent organizational and communication skills.
* Proficiency in inventory management systems, Lightspeed, and Tagit is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
* Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
* Comfortable standing, walking, and performing manual tasks for extended periods.
* Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Greenhouse Team Leader
We’re seeking a Greenhouse Team Leader to help oversee primarily the annuals greenhouse operations. The annuals department is a major core department to the nursery, and our customers have relied on the consistent quality and variety of the plants offered, this position will help guide that mission.
Position Overview: Full-time. The Greenhouse Team Leader answers to and will collaborate with the Annuals Greenhouse Manager to maintain the health and quality of our plants, co-manage a large department, and ensure consistent operations. This position requires good interpersonal and logistical skills and a working knowledge of general plant care. You’ll help with the orderly unloading and organizing of multiple truckloads of annuals & tropicals during our throughout the busy times, supervise a skilled and dynamic team, and collaborate with other departments to ensure operational excellence and consistent guest satisfaction. The nursery is weekend-focused and included in the full-time requirements.
