COMMON NAME: Yucca (often Yucca elephantipes or Yucca gigantea for indoor use)
LIGHT: Bright, indirect light to full sun. Tolerates some direct sun indoors.
WATERING: Allow the top 2–3 inches of soil to dry out between waterings. Water deeply but infrequently. Avoid letting the plant sit in water.
SOIL: Well-draining potting mix; cactus/succulent blend is ideal. Add perlite or coarse sand to improve drainage if needed.
FERTILIZING: Feed once a month during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength. No need to fertilize in fall or winter.
PRUNING: Remove dead or damaged leaves as needed. Can be pruned for height or shape—cutting the top will encourage branching.
EXTRA NOTES: Yuccas are slow-growing, drought-tolerant, and forgiving. Avoid overwatering—root rot is a common issue. Provide good airflow. May be susceptible to powdery mildew.
PET SAFE? No – toxic to cats and dogs if ingested (contains saponins).
CHILD SAFE? Generally safe, but the pointed leaves can be sharp; keep out of reach of small children.
