'Wu-La-La' resembles its parent, fellow giant hosta 'Empress Wu,' but with a golden border. Enormous, heart-shaped leaves form a majestic clump that reaches up to 6 feet across. Pale lavender flowers crown this empress's daughter in mid summer.

Habit (Form): Mounding, Semi-Upright
Foliage: Giant, heart-shaped, blue-green leaves with narrow, chartreuse margins that mature to pale gold. The transition between the center and margin colors has a streaked or brushed appearance. Upright petioles raise the leaves above the soil. Mature leaves may be slightly corrugated and cupped. Takes about five years to reach its full mature size.
Flowers: Pale lavender, tube-shaped flowers that grow on scapes above the foliage. Blooms mid summer.
Plant Origin: East Asia, primarily Japan and Korea. Most commercially available hostas are hybrids.
Wildlife Support: Hummingbirds and some bees enjoy the flowers. A favorite treat for our local deer.
Fertilizing: Apply compost in early spring before new growth emerges.
Pruning: Remove spent flower stalks to encourage new growth; trim back damaged or yellowing leaves as needed. Leave the leaves over the winter and wait until early spring to clean up.
