It’s that pink ribbon time of year. Next week, we will provide the flowering plants for and construction of a 30 foot pink ribbon honoring breast cancer survivors and remembering those who have lost their battle. The Tennessee Breast Cancer Coalition (TBCC) was founded in 1995 to increase awareness of breast cancer issues to men and women in Tennessee. For more than 20 years, their efforts have led to a vast number of accomplishments in our state.
Today, the TBCC provides assistance to more men and women than any other breast cancer grassroots organization in the state. I ask you to consider supporting the TBCC along with Bates Nursery & Garden Center. Donations can be made directly through the website: www.tbcc.org.
Today’s rain and cooler temperatures are a welcome reminder of things to come. Soon crisp air will be an every day event. I’m not looking to chase away summer just yet; we do still have six weeks of summer remaining. That said, lower temperatures and regular rainfall do make great gardening companions. The amount of growth that continues to push on everything in the landscape is pretty remarkable. This is the time to give your plants a final feeding before fall. Act now to get those plants that are a bit off-color back to vigor. By taking the initiative immediately, you will have plants that go through the winter looking their best. Whether you use the fertilizer you have on-hand, or visit and pick some up, you probably have several plants that need your undivided attention…do it now!
Through Thursday August 13, 2015, we are extending to you, our BatesRewards members a special opportunity. All plants will be discounted 25%. That is all trees, shrubs, groundcovers, ornamental grasses, edible landscape plants, perennials; all plants are 25% off! We are still receiving weekly shipments; many new plants.
Remember, we have free iced bottled water in the perennial area to keep you hydrated. Also, we’re working on cleaning our lot, so please excuse the mess.
