I always find it interesting how we are able to adapt to extreme seasonal changes. Take this morning for instance; it was 4° and it didn't feel that cold. Yesterday morning we got down to 0° at the nursery. Actually, it was .5°, but I'm calling zero. After going through the last few weeks of unaccustomed cold temperatures (at least in recent years) the cold doesn't feel as cold as it did earlier in the month. I'm not sure whether that's due to my body adapting to the cold, or that I'm learning to dress better for it. Either way, I'm just glad to see it warming up.
It is normal at this time of year for us to be working on preparations for spring. This January has not been the exception. For the last 16 years, we have been using a DOS point-of-sale system. Needless to say, we have been keeping it running with bailing wire and duct tape.
Actually, that is not true at all. The reason we have been running it for 16 years is that it has continued to work…reliably. I have been hesitant to make any change for a number of years simply because I have witnessed the anguish many others have experienced through a transition such as this. So I tried to do my homework. There is much to consider in this process. In the event you have emailed me over the past weeks; my apologies for not getting back to you in a timely fashion. This process has been all consuming. Thank you for your patience!
After three years of wrangling, I finally made a decision. Beginning Monday, February 3, we will begin using our new LightSpeed software. While I'm not certain the product name is indicative of the level of productivity and speed we will achieve, we are very hopeful it will make the checkout process, a less time-consuming, more pleasant event. It also has many new features I’ll be talking about in the weeks ahead.
