A July Monsoon

Fourth Off Sale extended thru July 18th

It’s a bit of an understatement to say that receiving 7” of rain the first week of July is unusual. We’re not accustomed to making flood preparations in summer. Fortunately, no flash flooding occurred. We also received an additional 1.15 inches of rain yesterday. If it seems I'm a bit fixated on the weather, that's because I am. So much so, we have a weather station here at Bates Nursery. We are approaching the two-year mark of having our weather station up and running. I find it interesting to look back at data that occurred on the same date the previous year… It doesn't take much to entertain me.

If you're growing tired of the same old reruns on YouTube, you're welcome to check out our weather station page. See our most up to date weather data here, or on the helpful links section of our website, www.batesnursery.com. We are always working to keep you informed of everything you need to know to have the best garden on your block…possibly your neighborhood!

Last Saturday we drove to Louisville to see the Eagles perform at the KFC YUM! Center (remember the days before corporate naming rights?). When I say we, I mean my wife Renée and two adult children: Jason and Sara. It takes a pretty significant event to put the four of us in a vehicle for a few hours drive. It was great to see Bernie Leadon reunited with his bandmates for the “History of the Eagles” tour.  As great as the concert was, an even more significant event occurred on Tuesday. Renée and I celebrated 28 years of marriage. That's a personal best for both of us.

The monsoon rains have been great for ground moisture, but it wasn't particularly beneficial for planting last weekend. With that in mind, we are extending our Fourth off After the Fourth Sale, for another week. Everything we have in stock will be 25% off through next Thursday. That does exclude special orders, gift cards, and deliveries.

Come see us,

David Bates
