Tennessee Breast Cancer Coalition

Give to the TBCC to honor a friend…

The Tennessee Breast Cancer Coalition was founded in 1995 to increase awareness of breast cancer issues to men and women in Tennessee. In just over 10 years, their efforts have led them to a vast number of accomplishments in our state.

Copy and paste this into your browser: http://tbcc.org/09_pink_ribbon_formandletter.pdf to purchase a flower in honor of or in memory of a friend or loved one who has been touched by cancer. Once the TBCC receives your form and donation, an acknowledgement is sent to you, as well as the person you have honored. The 30’ live pink ribbon of flowers will be on display at The Hermitage Golf Course the first week of August during our Par-Tee Dinner and Auction, Thursday, August 6 and golf tournament Friday, August 7, 2009. You are welcome to stop by and see it.

We at Bates Nursery & Garden Center are a proud supporter of the TBCC. We invite you to participate in this most worthwhile cause. We are honored to be the provider of plants and installer of the 30’ pink ribbon at Hermitage Golf Course.

While the flowers of all colors are blooming away, it may be time for a “hard pruning” of some of your annuals. At my home I trimmed our impatiens down to 6”, ten days ago, the plants are now fully flushed with new foliage and beginning to re-bud. Taking aggressive growing annuals back a bit is necessary, especially when we have rain such as we have received this summer. Failing to do so can result in plants that are stringy, leggy and generally poor looking during the end of summer.

If you are planning to do a “trim job” on your annuals, don’t forget to give them nutrition. Flowertone® is a great organic choice. It will give enough fertilizer to carry your flowers down the home stretch.

Lots of folks have continued to plant all summer with great results. The regularity of rain this summer has played a major part in making this summer such a comparatively easy maintenance year. With only about six weeks until summer is over, you might want to take advantage of the great weather for growing and planting. Soil moisture could not be more perfect so digging is as easy as it gets.
