So much going on, so little time…

Richland West End Home & Garden Tour, Encore presentation of SquareFoot Gardening, and oh yes, Mother’s Day

Now don’t think for a moment I listed Mother’s Day last as though it’s on the bottom of the totem pole of importance; you know better than that and I know better than that. Our mothers taught us so. Please don’t be the one who falls for the old, “No, don’t get me anything, all I need is your love” response. You could go for years trying to recover from a mistake like that. Admittedly, we’d be really happy to have the opportunity to be your choice for Mother’s Day gift-giving, but not all gifts require making a purchase. If you really want to do something nice for mom, try weeding her favorite flower bed (carefully), tilling up her garden spot or pulling up those awful hedges that are growing out-of-control. Okay, while you’re at it you might buy her some flowers too.

The Richland West End Home & Garden Tour & Street Festival is this weekend, May 7th & 8th. Last year’s event was pre-empted by a Noah’s Ark tribute. This year the weather looks divine and there’s more going on than ever before. There will be music from the porches, a street festival with vendors food and what-not (I’m not exactly sure what, what-not is) fun and educational clinics. Our very own Beth Flood will instruct Container Gardening, both Saturday and Sunday, and will have a great selection of prime perennials for your perusal. Everyone’s best friend, Ms. Cheap, a.k.a. Mary Hance, will provide the fundamentals of frugality as no one else can! There are more wonderful activities than space permits; go to www.rwena.org for full details.

Lastly and certainly not least, is an encore presentation by Rowena Aldridge on SquareFoot Gardening. Our last two seminars were packed with people and information; don’t miss this chance to see her in The GreenRoom this Saturday at 11:00am and again at 2:00pm. Email Sara Bates to assure your spot: sarabates@batesnursery.com. We will have Mother’s Day SquareFoot gardening specials and gifts for all who attend!

Have a great weekend!
